Audiometric Testing

An employee must be given a baseline audiogram upon initial hiring. Audiograms are given annually thereafter and compared to the employee's baseline to determine if hearing loss is occurring.

When employees arrive for audiometric testing at the Houston Area Safety Council, they are given a hearing history questionnaire. An HASC technician then examines each person’s ears with an otoscope. Next, employees are seated in the sound reduction booth and the hearing test is administered.

Upon completion of the test, the computer automatically compares the employee's current test to the baseline and a letter of interpretation is printed immediately. The technician briefly reviews the results of the test with the employee who then signs the test results.

If the testing shows that the employee has an unusual result or has sustained a standard threshold shift, a physician will review the test. A detailed report of the results will be provided to your company electronically.

To order baseline audiograms, register your employees for 19AUDIO. Baseline audiograms cost $11.00 for HASC Members and $16.00 for Non-Members.

To order an annual audiogram for comparison to the baseline, register your employees for 19AUDEV. Audiometric evaluations are $14.00 for HASC Members and $19.00 for Non-Members.
